Catholic Congessmen send warning to Bishops

"For many years Catholics were denied public office by voters who feared that they would take direction from the Pope . . . While that type of paranoid anti-Catholicism seems to be a thing of the past, attempts by Church leaders today to influence votes by the threat of withholding a sacrament [Communion] will revive latent anti-Catholic prejudice, which so many of us have worked so hard to overcome."
...73 Catholic Democrats of the U.S. House of Representatives, in a letter written to the task force of U.S. bishops considering the issue of politicians whose voting records are at odds with Church doctrine.

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also."
...Jesus of Nazareth, in a message to 11 men who didn't let fear of "reviving latent prejudice" keep them from doing what was right.

"If you think you're standing for Christ, and find that the world is applauding, think again."
...Me =)
